The biggest stars of Broadway stepped out last weekend at the Tony Awards in New York City, and many of them were wearing the same shade—blue. The hue is hot for evening wear right now, with the blue tuxedo in particular a popular choice among men.
The show’s host, Kevin Spacey, wore an iridescent navy Isaia tux at the start of the show and closed the night in a blue velvet dinner jacket. The night’s “It” guy, Ben Platt of Dear Evan Hansen, who won for best leading actor in a musical, wore a custom-made David Hart in marine blue. Andrew Rannells (from Falsettos and, previously, The Book of Mormon) sported a blue Polo Ralph Lauren tux. Other men spotted in blue? Josh Gad, Alex Lacamoire, Josh Groban and Taye Diggs.
As for the ladies, Sally Field and Rachel Bay Jones (who won featured actress in a musical for Dear Evan Hansen) wore blue gowns by Christian Siriano. Field’s was an elegant off the shoulder number with a fabulous train of navy blue feathers, while Jones’ was a strapless, belted gown in a bright Caribbean blue. Other visions in blue included Glenn Close, Kate Baldwin and Mary Beth Peil.
