Biking the Jersey Shore

Biking the Jersey Shore

Like to bike? There are plenty of great options at the Jersey Shore, providing beautiful views of the ocean, woods and wildlife while you ride. Read on for a few of our favorites:

Sandy Hook Bike Path

This paved, flat path spans the length of the Sandy Hook peninsula, stretching 8.5 miles from the Park Entrance to Fort Hancock. It offers great views of the ocean as well as shady sections through maritime forest. A bird observatory and wildlife observation decks along the way allow you to take in the natural beauty of your surroundings. Don’t miss the historic fort and picturesque lighthouse.

Barnegat Branch Bike Trail

This trail will eventually go from South Toms River to Barnegat on the abandoned Barnegat Branch Division of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. Much of the trail has been completed, but there’s still more to come. Pedal your way through the sandy soil of the Pine Barrens and stop by the trailhead facility in Waretown for a display area that highlights the history of the railroad and surrounding area.

Biking from Long Branch to Spring Lake

This seaside route passes through eight small towns and ends in the lovely community of Spring Lake with its Victorian architecture and beautiful parks. Along the way there are boardwalks that can be ridden much of the year (but you’re usually restricted to mornings during summer).
