German Precision · Feminine Spirit
Dorothee Schumacher at Garmany
Founded 1989 · Dusseldorf, Germany
Bold Color, Quiet Luxury
In 1989, Dorothee Schumacher — born in Dusseldorf in 1966 — debuted her first collection at the Igedo trade fair: just four T-shirts. She’d come prepared by an apprenticeship at Peek & Cloppenburg, an internship at an Italian knitwear label, and time in France deepening her textile knowledge. It wasn’t much of a collection, but it carried the seed of everything that would follow: femininity as a design pillar, not a trend. In the late 1980s, fashion was dominated by masculine power dressing. Schumacher planted a flag in the opposite direction.
Together with her husband Jörg Singhoff, she built the label — originally called “Schumacher” — into an international house sold in 46 countries across 600+ doors. In 2014, the brand was renamed DOROTHEE SCHUMACHER to more personally reflect the designer. Her son Maximilian joined as second CEO in 2017, making it a true family enterprise. The brand has mastered what critics call “quiet luxury”: bold color and playful detail executed with the kind of restraint and precision that only 35 years of experience can produce. Her designs appeared in The Devil Wears Prada alongside Chanel and Hermès — exactly the company she keeps.
The Collection
Color, Knit & Character
Knitwear
The house foundation. Merino and cashmere cardigans, pullovers, and knit dresses in Schumacher’s signature bold colorways. Pieces that elevate basics into something special — refined enough for the office, comfortable enough for the weekend.
Dresses
From printed midis and cocktail styles to sequin minis and flowing evening gowns. Every dress carries the brand’s commitment to feminine confidence — colors that pop, silhouettes that flatter, and details that surprise without overwhelming.
Blouses & Tops
Statement blouses with sculptural details, oversized bows, and unexpected appliques. Pieces designed to be the focal point of an outfit — the kind of top that transforms trousers and a blazer into something memorable.
Tailored Separates
Suiting, trousers, skirts, and outerwear with the same bold-yet-restrained aesthetic. German precision in the tailoring, feminine spirit in the design — versatile pieces that build a wardrobe with personality.
"Dorothee Schumacher specializes in sophisticated, empowering designs that combine femininity with modern aesthetics. Recognized for bold use of color, playful prints, and luxurious fabrics."
