Maurizio Baldassari was born in Lerici, a coastal village along the Cinque Terre in Liguria. In the 1950s, he moved to Milan’s Brera district — Italy’s cultural and artistic heart — where he worked his way from department store buyer to stylist to fashion designer. By the mid-1970s, he had launched his eponymous label with a philosophy that still guides the house today: “Not run by numbers, we are run by passion.”
Fifty years later, the brand remains a family business, now operated by his sons Renato and Roberto. Maurizio Baldassari is committed to promoting Italian excellence, protecting the small-scale artisans who hand-finish each garment, and deliberately avoiding over-production. The Brera lifestyle — that sophisticated Milanese art-district sensibility where elegance meets ease — permeates everything the brand creates.
