From Havana
to Broad Street
In 1959, Castro's revolution sent a 12-year-old boy named Larry Garmany fleeing Cuba by fishing boat with his family. They arrived in America with nothing. Larry eventually settled in Brooklyn, developed an eye for style, and in the early 1970s opened his first clothing store with a $10,000 investment, some borrowed, some saved.
When he planted his flag in Red Bank in 1989, the town was struggling. Locals jokingly called it "Dead Bank." For the first 13 days, not a single customer walked through the door. But Larry saw what others couldn't: a community waiting for something special. He bet everything on the idea that if you treat people exceptionally, they'll travel to find you.
He was right. Today, Red Bank is one of the most vibrant towns in New Jersey, and Garmany is its crown jewel, ranked among the top 10 independent retailers in the United States.

Under Johnell Garmany's leadership, the legacy his father built has evolved without losing its soul. The store has expanded to 40,000 square feet. The brand roster has grown to over 100 designers for men and women.
