There’s nothing we love more in the summer months than to pack a picnic with our favorite gourmet foods and head outside to dine alfresco. But what to wear when you’re headed to an afternoon soiree in the grass?

For ladies, your number-one rule is to ditch the heels. Slip into a cute pair of flats, embellished flip-flops, or wedges so that you don’t sink into the soil. Wear longer shorts, a romper, capris or a maxi dress so you can sit on the ground comfortably or climb onto a picnic table. Bring a light jacket or cardigan in case there’s a cool breeze. For men, colored shorts or jeans are fun. Avoid wearing black as it absorbs light, which turns into heat and will make you hot. You don’t want to sit there sweating while everyone else is having a good time. By the way, think comfort as you might be throwing around a Frisbee or ball.
